Corallia Clusters Initiative
Vassilios Makios is a Professor Emeritus at the Dept of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Patras, and at the Dept of Electronics of the Carleton University in Ottawa. He has been involved in numerous scientific projects and has published over 150 papers and numerous patents. He was influential in the establishment of technology companies in Greece and in 2006, he co-founded the Hellenic Technology Clusters Initiative - Corallia, and is up to date the Head of the Unit. He plays an instrumental role in the design and implementation of interventions introduced by Corallia with a vision “to sustain a Greek environment with the right framework conditions to allow sciences, innovation and entrepreneurship to flourish again” and ultimate goal “to establish the brand Innovation Designed in Greece”.
Corallia is a multi-Cluster organisation, incubator and youth entrepreneurship accelerator. It coordinates 3 innovation clusters with more than 155 members: the gi-Cluster, the mi-Cluster and the si-Cluster and is awarded with the Gold Label of Cluster Management Excellence. It operates 2 thematic Business Innovation Centres (BICs): the α2-innohub in Athens and the π1-innohub in Patras and is awarded with the EBN EU|BIC certificate for quality business support. It implements a series of initiatives to stimulate youth entrepreneurship with partners and donors: the most prominent Accelerator in Greece the egg – enter.grow.go in cooperation with Eurobank, the Educational Trip in cooperation with student associations at highly acknowledged universities worldwide, Hackathons, Career Days, Internships Days, Networking Days, etc. Corallia is also awarded with an ISO 9001:2008 certificate by TUV NORD CERT and demonstrates strong engagement in European cluster policy bodies and has established key-strategic international collaborations.
